Tosca Mitkowska [Amsterdam, 1986]
Whenever I write I picture it in front of me. And whatever I draw becomes a world of its own. One sentence immediately demands the next in order to do justice to all the layers in my head. Layers made up of, preferably, the things we cannot capture so easily. It is often between the lines that a story is felt. In a drawing attitudes are spoken by crossed arms or gentle smiles. This is a language that fascinates me. I continuously strive to get as close as possible to capture both deep feelings and the banality of existence.
I am a writer and illustrator. I write for the screen and I design graphic novels and comic stories. I am also part of three-headed music collective, WIIS, where I write lyrics and make performances. At the moment, I lead a writing team developing an international television series about lovelessness and I am working on the following comic stories: Red, Neko finds love, Square One; traversing the time-space continuum, The High Sugar Soap Opera, and Acting nice.
